Posed as a friend and asked for verification code which I gave as a result of exhaustion working as a key worker for the NHS. Emailed WhatsApp support to disable my account but the damage was done. The XXXXX messaged most of my family and friends. I am now waiting to retrieve my account so annoyed these people get away with it

Accompanied by message from 'friend' asking for it to be forwarded.

WHATSAPP BREACH - URGENT INFORMATION I recently received this from a friends phone on 'Whatsapp'. Their phone had been hacked. ‘Hi, I'm sorry, I mistakenly sent you a 6-digit code via SMS, can you pass it to me please? It's urgent' This WhatsApp message was followed by a SMS (text) from 07860 02XXXXX which contained a 6 digit code. I did not respond by sending the code to the WhatsApp contact. If I had done I my own WhatsApp account would have been remotely accessed, the passwords change

Identity theft. Friend's Whatsapp account got hacked and almost got mine stolen too. Apparently this phone number is behind it. If they send you a Whatsapp verification link, do not click on it!

Giving me a whatsapp code "as requested" but I never requested a code. Blocked the number and activated two factor verification on my whatsapp account.

Sent me a text which gave me a code for WhatsApp. Telling me to click on a link to verify my phone. I had uninstalled WhatsApp because it was playing up.
